Dear friends, are past 16 years since we started tentatively with the Alice Project at Sarnath . Two classrooms were built with the intention of bringing students up to fifth grade. There were eighty students and three teachers. These are still with us. I remember the prophecy of the Jain religion that came to bless the classrooms, after the ceremonies of Christians (father Pereira, the Capuchin friar), Buddhist monks (Gosele Lama, the president of our company), a Hindu pandit and a mullhah Muslim. He said the religious Janine: "This land is not enough!" Even Father Pereira, the Capuchin friar, preaching during the Mass celebrated in the classroom of the underground said that the school would develop in an unpredictable way. We made it clear that the particular designs of Providence had not ... So we thought for sure that those two classrooms would be miraculously multiplied to become thirty. Students went from nine hundred to a few tens to current Sarnath, Bodhgaya 40 to (hostel residents), in a hundred new schools in Arunachal Pradesh. Teachers have soared up to three dozen. Over the years, some of the funds offered by our sponsors, was donated for the purchase of land, knowing that the school would never have developed if he had not had adequate space for buildings, laboratories, playground ... Dal 1994, data di fondazione della scuola, alcune centinaia di studenti si sono diplomati presso la nostra Istituzione (maturità simile alla terza liceo in Italia). Molti di questi ex studenti ora hanno finito l’Università e insegnano oppure lavorano in aziende private. Ad esempio, tre ex studenti insegnano a Varanasi nella scuola Aghoreshwar Bhagwan Ram Bal, che segue i principi del Progetto Alice. Altri tre ex studenti hanno trovato lavoro presso la scuola di un monastero di Bodhgaya, che segue la nostra metodologia. The school, thus, was included in the list of leading centers for university exams.
School in Bodhgaya for Chakma
The Chakma are an ethnic minority from Bangladesh, Buddhist. The Bangladesh was born in 1971 after the secession from the State of Pakistan, who belonged to India until 1947. So the Chakma were Indians until the famous bloody partition that saw the state of Pakistan. When it came to pass the second partition (the birth of the State of Bangladesh), found themselves face harsh persecution by the Muslim majority. Not only that, but part of the territory, where they lived, was flooded with a huge new dam. Thus, thousands of families were forced to leave their land and take refuge in India. Concentrated mainly in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, where many working as farmers living in conditions of great discomfort. Very few were recognized by the Indian government. The majority live as refugees, without rights, without a passport, without the opportunity to vote, open a bank account or their own business. Since 1998, the Alice Project has taken to heart the situation of this ethnic minority and hosts free dozens of school children ranging from nine to twenty years. So far we have helped about a hundred of these unfortunate children. Now many of them work in the army, or as translators (English) in call centers, such as teachers in their villages or camps with their elderly parents. Bodhgaya A host of two years 40 of these guys and we take them until the end of high school. Bodhgaya these students do not have an easy life. In fact, for educational choice, we decided to entrust the school, including the administration, the students themselves, who must try to become as independent as possible. Non più carità, servizi offerti gratuitamente, ma scambio. Do ut des, dice un proverbio latino. Io ti offro qualcosa, ma tu devi ricambiare in qualche modo. Se non facciamo “pagare” un prezzo, c’è il rischio che venga sottovalutata l’offerta. Sembra proprio vero il detto: “Più paghi, più apprezzi!”
Sempre restando in tema di chakma, non possiamo non ricordare la nuova scuola per bambini delle elementari fondata in un villaggio dell’Arunachal Pradesh, vicino al Parco Nazionale. La scuola è frequentata da più di cento bambini e vi lavorano sei insegnanti che hanno ricevuto un training a Sarnath da Luigina e Valentino. School in Bihar
We realize that if we want a real positive change in India, we have to focus on the education of girls and boys. The future is in their hands. Do you agree Vandana Shiva, a courageous scientist who is fighting to stop the self-destructive race of this country. "Life is the woman. It will be the woman who will bring the village life in the cities, "says Vandana Shiva. Also we have the Alice project special consideration for girls and boys. Our dream is to see many of them teachers, social workers, psychologists engaged soprattutto nei villaggi che stanno morendo nelle loro tradizioni. Come sarebbe bello se in ogni villaggio ci fosse un seme di Alice!
Luigina ebbe modo di dire tutto questo sia a Vandana Shiva che ad altri educatori internazionali in occasione di un workshop sull’educazione alternativa organizzato dal governo del Bhutan. Come fare? Il Progetto Alice da anni sta cercando di offrire una risposta a questa domanda. Mai come oggi c’è bisogno di risposte alle richieste di aiuto dell’ambiente (vedi malattia della Terra) e delle nuove generazioni confuse dalla crisi economica e di valori che spinge le persone alla depressione e, a volte, al suicidio. Anche la nostra scuola è stata toccata dale conseguenze di questa confusione epocale: la mamma di un nostro studente ha deciso di mettere fine alla sua vita di sofferenze in modo drammatico (ha ingerito del veleno per i topi). Tre anni fa, registrammo un caso simile a Bodhgaya. Ad andarsene, sbattendo la porta della vita, fu la madre di 4 figli, stanca delle continue angherie e violenze del marito alcoolizzato. Che i tempi siano radicalmente peggiorati lo dimostra non solo l’aumentato livello di sofferenza e stress nei villaggi, ma anche i segni di una corruzione morale evidenziati dalla morte per Aids del padre di un nostro studente. Questa morte è un campanello di allarme, la punta di un icesbeg sommerso di drammatiche dinamiche pronte a maturare in modo sempre piu’distruttivo.
Altri episodi dolorosi si sono verificati nell’anno in progress. We remember the drowning of one of our students in the class X. For years trying to convince the villagers to respect more the Earth, the environment, but we're really a "voice crying in the wilderness."
Unfortunately, India seems to march in a direction opposite to that suggested by our school, which, once again, especially following the ideas of non-violence and Gandhi's development. Gandhi had a clear vision of the future of his country that was exactly the opposite of that proposed by the West. Less than agriculture and industry, said Gandhi. Less consumption and more simplicity. Less profit sharing and more. Less materialism, more spirituality and respect for all religious traditions. If a car takes away the dozens of workers at work, give up the car, which, inter alia, the polluter, to ensure the survival of the workers. In these few lines is also summarized the philosophy of our project educativo. Un’ultima osservazione: mentre in Occidente si teorizza la “decrescita felice” (una specie di marcia indietro, senza trauma, per quanto riguarda i consumi), qui si propaganda la “crescita felice” (ma solo per pochi). La scuola si trova ad affrontare contraddizioni gravi, come l’inquinamento, la mancanza di acqua, gli effetti devastanti del global warming, la disoccupazione, lo sradicamento dalle tradizioni (positive, ovviamente), la confusione che ha nevrotizzato l’Europa e sta ora contaminando anche l’Asia. Tutto questo, per spiegare le complesse dinamiche ambientali in cui opera la scuola. In Italia si ha una visione spesso romantica dell’India, che viene vista come l’alternativa positive in the West. Several groups of foreign students and teachers continue to visit us. We report the International School in Pune, which has recently sent 16 students and two teachers a week at Sarnath. Il Centro dei Villa ha compreso che un percorso spirituale non può essere dissociato dall’educazione delle nuove generazioni. Quale educazione? Non c’è molto da scegliere sul mercato, soprattutto in tema di “educazione alla spiritualità”. Ha compreso che il Progetto Alice è forse l’unica esperienza pratica di educazione all’emptiness, come ha scritto recentemente una giornalista indiana su “Mindfields”, una bellissima rivista specializzata in educazione alternativa (vedi articolo in inglese pubblicato sul nostro blog: www.aliceproject.org ). Di sicuro, il Centro dei Villa è l’unico, tra i centri di dharma in Italia e nel mondo, a sostenerci non solo moralmente ma anche economicamente.

- La dott.ssa Antonella Adorisio, psicologa junghiana di Roma, ha recentemente pubblicato un nuovo video the relationship between body and spirit. - The Alice Project Onlus del Friuli (see address at the end of the letter) has presented two projects (the Friuli and Trentino Alto Adige) per chiedere finanziamenti per le nosre scuole. Interessante il tema di uno dei progetti: “Il bosco della rinascita”. Si riferisce all’acquisto di un bosco di manghi effettuato qualche mese fa dalla scuola di Sarnath. I manghi stavano per essere tagliati e il terreno sarebbe stato lottizzato. Per evitare due tragedie, l’Amministrazione della scuola ha deciso di acquistare il terreno con gli alberi di mango e costruire un centro per il recupero dei bambini/e con difficoltà psicologiche e comportamentali. Di qui il nome del progetto presentato alla Regione Friuli: “Il bosco della rinascita.” Rinascita psicologica, ovviamente. Alla Regione Trentino Alto Adige è stato presentato un progetto per un impianto di pannelli solari school in Bodhgaya and Sarnath.
