Messages For Marrriage

Ecovillage / Cohousing Subbiano (Arezzo). India

After many posts dedicated to India, returned to live otherwise deal of community experience, presenting a new, "in progress" that looks really promising. I quote from http://ecovillaggiosubbiano.blogspot.com/

The project: the ability to imagine the future

In the spring of 2010, a small group of families and citizens of Emilia and Tuscany has kicked off a process of participatory planning to build an ecovillage based on the principles of permaculture, natural farming, cohousing and decrease happy. The group were soon united even nuclei from L'Aquila, Rome and Naples. The aim is to create a community-inclusive socio-economic self-sufficient in energy, idrico ed alimentare.
Nell'ecovillaggio could find and then sit up to 30/40 families. At the time the first group settlement is composed of seven modules and will, initially, in line with costs, in a first phase that includes the purchase and rehabilitation of houses where they could sit up to 10/12 nuclei.
Anyone interested can contact us by email at progettosubbiano@gmail.com , requiring, among other things, examine the Manifesto of intent drawn up by the first group settlement.

Nelle elezioni del 1991 il Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) è diventato il maggiore partito di opposizione, ed è promotore del return to the authentic values of the Hindu doctrine and the promoters incited the attack at the mosque. Especially numerous revolts break out in northern India, where they exploded several bombs.
In 1996, the BJP won the elections, but just because the ruling secular forces are working to not create a lasting government. The BJP can not win the elections of 1998 and 1999 and is the first religious parties that leads the country.
Despite the moderation of Atal Behari Vajpayee Prime Minister, within the party there are many supporters of the BJP taking aggressive attitudes.
At that time, relations with Pakistan are strained.

In the northwest region of the Tamils are fighting for the establishment of an autonomous state.
intervention of India in 1987 in order to quell the hatred between the two ethnic groups has been shown for the Tamil minority.
To understand the reasons for this conflict we must rebuild an overview of the history of the country.
After independence from the British in Sri Lanka was hit by a violent civil war that pits the Sinhalese Buddhist faith of the Tamil Hindu belief. The main cause of the origin of the conflict is the demand for autonomy by the minoranza tamil .
early 1958 after the outbreak of the first conflict, the Buddhist monks begin their preaching and are promoters of the defense of national identity, reinforcing the idea that it is legitimate to fight against "evil." To try to explain what motivates a religion like Buddhism to enter into a war scenario, it is necessary to first analyze the social stratification of Sri Lanka.
in the country 75% of the population are Sinhalese, while the remaining 18% are Tamils.
Regarding religion, 70% Buddhist, 16% Hindu, 7.5% Muslim and there is also a Christian minority. The Tamil population lives
into two distinct parts in the north and center of the country. Especially in the middle of the people devote themselves to agriculture and constitute a social class and peasant while sharing the same religion and same language as the Hindu inhabitants of the north-east, do not struggle to achieve autonomy. The main purpose of this position is: these workers are a minority that has always been exploited by both the Tamils that the Sinhalese. With the intensification of the conflict also shows the position of Muslims trying to keep their distance from either side.
Relations between Muslims and Sinhalese are never good since colonial times. In fact, with the arrival of the British and the introduction of coffee plantations, the Muslims have taken over the control of traffic of goods.
Then following the Sinhalese revolt against the rulers, the Muslims are accused of having sided with the British. Since then the Muslim minority increases the demands to establish a religious community independent of the Buddhist religion of state.
In Sri Lanka also has a Catholic community in Sri Lanka, in 1995 with the arrival of Pope John Paul II can collect a numerous throng of the faithful. During the heated conflict of the eighties also Catholics have been involved in civil war.
Among the fifties and sixties in Sri Lanka to witness the birth of a lever Buddhist monks, who reformulate ideas and projects of Buddhism.
This new movement is defined by many historians as "Protestant Buddhism" and its roots in colonialism and contact with local populations. In fact, with the arrival of Europeans in 1500, in particular the Portuguese, followed by Dutch and English, was born an influence on the inhabitants of the island. This influence of Western society leads to the emergence and dissemination of ideas promoted by the Buddhist centers and the creation of an intellectual class that becomes the promoter of the fight against the foreign rulers.
The religion of the colonial power is seen by some as an enemy and the other to be taken as an example.
The birth of the "Protestant Buddhism" has its origins in the era of their foreign rulers and professes to return to the origins and construction of national collective identity. The first is the great reformer Anagarika Dharmapala Monaco, who devotes his life to the transformation of Sri Lankan society is too influenced by Western culture and seeks to spread the Buddhist ethics. Buddhist monks became missionaries for a new ethical and political renewal of Sri Lanka. According
Dharmapala to be able to defeat the moral degradation of society must return to the Buddhist teachings such as compassion, charity, purity, and the constant search for truth. I monks become local leaders in villages with the aim of educating people to the law of dharma, which summarizes the ethic of Buddhist thought.
monks become social workers and play a mediating role between the political world and the world urban and rural villages. The monks work in the fields and enhance the contrast the materialism of the trade of goods liable to destroy the law of dharma.
The Sri Lankan government has always tried to defend the Buddhist religion, which is a key element of national identity.
With the widespread clashes between 1983 and 1987 has strengthened the position that the policy has the task of defending the purity of the dharma.
The monks teach the peasants of the villages that follow the teaching of dharma is to live a simple life, lived in the here and now ", pledging to improve themselves and the community to which we belong.
These sermons are followed by the formation of missionary groups and individuals that make outstanding schools in Sri Lankan politics.
The class of Buddhist monks spread ideas that are assimilated by the political class that guides the construction of the Sri Lankan nation.
The moral foundations of Buddhism are considered essential for a process of economic development. His ability to create collective energies and cooperation would have enabled the development and economic growth. A
Following a thorough reform of morals, according to Buddhist ethics, it would be possible to promote economic development.
monks in their campaign to promote the development preach abstinence from alcohol and drugs, refrain from hanging out, watching the folk shows, gambling and horse racing, try to avoid bad company and combat idleness.
An essential foundation of the preaching of the monks is the discovery of a new work ethic. These Buddhist monks began to train a generation that will be called "soldiers of the dharma", in order to rebuild society based on the virtues of Buddhist morality.
is important to remember that Buddhism in the Sri Lankan born a cooperative movement similar to that found in the Italian Catholic community.
also spreads the utopia to establish a society based on purity, harmony and balance is enhanced and the lifestyle of farmers opposed to the urban phenomenon characterized by increasing industrialization.
A fundamental work that summarizes the ideas of the monks is a text written by monaco Walphola Rahula called "the legacy of bhikku," published in 1974 in England. The bhikku is an order of monks who have dedicated their lives to the teachings of the Buddha.
The text summarizes the task of Monaco as a political activist and social worker to build a new Sri Lankan identity.
comes to power in 1956 when the Sri Lankan Prime Minister of the Republic inspired by her side to the teachings of the monks, the seminars have become universities, has introduced the Sinhala language and women are allowed to study in universities.
Tradition says that the Buddha through the whole island and stops in sixteen places, which are still considered sacred and where his relics are venerated.
This fact led us to think, in the collective Sinhalese, Sri Lanka, which is a sacred land entrusted to the Buddha and the Sinhalese are a chosen people.
The Tamils are treated as an enemy that threatens the territorial unity of Sri Lanka, the sacred land of Buddha.
Many Buddhist monks have gone to war against the Tamils to try to prevent the island is divided, according to the monks because his division would also entail that the body of the Buddha.
In Sri Lanka religion has proved a powerful means of communication capable of mobilizing the community against the threat of territorial disintegration.
Religion in this case has had a decisive role in the construction of national identity and to consider the Sri Lankan Tamils as the enemy to defeat.
Yet before the outbreak of violent conflicts of the eighties among the Sinhalese and Tamil, there are some points of contact from the religious point of view: the festival of Vel which is celebrated by both communities there are rituals that take place from the temple to the Hindu Buddhist.
space that inter-site communication and exchange has become an area of confrontation and conflict, where religion instead of doing the task of creating unity between two different ethnic groups has become because of their hostility.

He gives courses and conferences in 'everywhere, embedded systems, where he presented the fruit of thirty years of experience in close contact with the mental and physical reality of India, with luminaries of Ayurvedic medical science and Oriental monks, and is often present at major conferences as a speaker.

"There is only one truth, but the wise call it by different names."
"Every discipline, scientific or metaphysical, is based filosoficomatematica an interpretation of nature and its rules that characterizes and distinguishes it. So it is more typical for the Indian medicine: Ayurveda. "
" Ayurveda is the knowledge of a particular teacher philosophy of life-encompassing, and dealing with science and technology, describes the phenomenon of creation, preservation and emancipation of the process of universal life. "
" We realize that all the wealth of knowledge of the Vedas reveals vital in today's world, because it can indicate a path that leads to the successful completion of all physical suffering and mental health. "

The idea of this They start by collecting a series of writings particularly significant Maestro Amadio Bianchi.
result is a detailed analysis of the discipline of Yoga and Ayurvedic medicine, through research into various aspects of theoretical and practical, the health care system the world's oldest.
An evolution of the "science of life", its meaning, relaxation techniques, breathing, the welfare of the spine, eyes, heart, following the study of traditional Ayurvedic medicine, the principles on which it based the finding a balance for the maintenance of absolute health, diet therapies, purification practices from massage to relieve pain more common.
Some techniques presented have been extracted from lectures or public conferences held by the Master in Italy and abroad.
Ayurveda in the West has long been regarded as an esoteric science. Yet it is a science of life, practical and above all simple, and its principles are universally applicable to all aspects of our daily lives. A science that deals with every element and every aspect of human life, not just by offering insight, honed over many centuries, to the benefit of all who seek a life in harmony with nature, a life of peace and longevity.
The science of yoga is popular all over the world, is deeply and intimately connected with Ayurveda and natural medicine with all connected to it. The two scientists, as a differentiated only in the West used to classify and separate, are actually a single thing that goes back to research and ancient wisdom of the Rishis and their cosmic consciousness. A unique vision, indeed, simply translated into "science of life."
We're all living in a very particular time is difficult in many ways, he sees his own way can the integration of different cultures and human knowledge. The growth of human beings through the union, the comparison, the interaction of all the knowledge in health and wellness. "Science of life ", Ayurveda, is one of them, and being in itself an integrated system of various branches of specialization, dall'erboristeria, surgery, psychology, lends itself to this unification.

knowledge in this book come from ancient texts written in Sanskrit. For this reason the dates listed have been carefully transcribed from Sanskrit through the use of diacritical marks (signs placed above or below certain letters), to allow proper reading and pronunciation. Some terms appear, the present text, different from common usage to which we are accustomed, such as the very word Ayurveda is a word for men.

Chi è litigioso dimentica
che moriremo tutti;
non ci sono litigi
per il saggio che riflette sulla morte.

Dhammapada strofa 6

never falling nell'incuria. The wisdom can blossom from
constant reflection of what we risk losing because of inattention

Als Disease More Condition_symptoms

The encounter with the West. Historical events, religions, travel stories, part V. The goddess

1.14 L’indipendenza e la partition of India

In 1945 he won the Labor Party in England and this causes a change in the political scene. However the British did not manage to appease the differences between the two major parties in India. The Congress Party led by Nehru wants to create an independent India and united, while the Muslim League claimed the birth of an independent Muslim state.
When the British attempt to reconcile the two conflicting parties fails, the result was the outbreak of civil war. In 1946 the Muslim League
causes a massacre of Hindus and this leads to acts of retaliation against Muslims. Because of the seriousness of the situation the British government was forced a concedere l’indipendenza.

Nel Ladakh combatte contro la Cina e perde la sua influenza su vaste areas of the territory, where even today the India asserts its sovereignty. In 1965, they start wars against Pakistan over Kashmir and in the seventies to Bangladesh.
When Nehru died the following year rises to power his daughter Indhira Gandhi. Due to a series of internal disturbances and riots in 1975 Indhira proclaims state of emergency and free of restrictions parliamentary work starts to beat inflation and boost the economy and achieved a brilliant success. During the same period jailed political opponents and there is an increase of corruption in the judiciary and press freedom suffers few restrictions. Indhira is confident despite losing the popular support the elections of 1977, which saw the winner People Janata Party (JPP), founded by a socialist Gandhian who dies after the election. The JPP has won the election, but without a definite political program is not capable of dealing with the problems of the country and in the elections of 1980 Indhira Gandhi returned to power.

1.16 The continuity of the Congress Party

There are many problems facing Indhira once returned to power: the conflict between the different communities, the tough battles against the Dalits, the increase in police corruption and the riots that erupted in the Punjab.
The majority of these problems remain unsolved in 1984 when Indhira is killed by two Sikh bodyguards, after having decided to send Indian army for the liberation of the Sikh Golden Temple of Amritsar.
When the decision to break into the most sacred temple of the Sikhs, many riots broke out between Hindus and Sikhs. Even in the 1984 elections the Congress Party won out and Rajiv's son Indhira, becomes prime minister. Not much later, however, his government loses the agreement because of the numerous instances of corruption that involve the same Rajiv, who was assassinated in 1990 in Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka's separatist armed group called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ". His successor is
Narasimha Rao, who heads the Congress to victory. In 1992 there was an economic recovery thanks to the decision of the Minister of Finance to devalue the rupee. The Indian market is opened to foreign investment, transnational corporations are interested in the growing number of professionals and are attracted by low labor costs are beginning to invest in the country. One of the most important is that the software industry today is one of the most developed. In 1996, Rao's government also involved in a series of scandals ended, unable to defuse tensions in the country.

1.17 The conflict in Kashmir

Before independence the question of the border between India and Pakistan is difficult administered by the British because the principles are independent.
Kashmir in 1948 has a Muslim majority but is ruled by a Hindu maharaja. At that time, a Pakistani army crosses the border with the intention of annexing Kashmir to Pakistan. The Indian Army is able to reach Srinagar and prevent the occupation of the city, then takes the side of the Maharaja Indian and conflict is inevitable.
In 1948 is organized by the United Nations Council for a referendum on the future of Kashmir. The following year he established a cease-fire and creates a demarcation line to separate the two rival countries. This boundary, called the Line of Control serves as the border even though the two contenders do not consider it such.
The Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir including Ladakh (where there are Muslims and Buddhists), Jammu (with a clear Hindu majority), the Kashmir Valley (with substantial Muslim majority), while the Pakistani side in the three million people live in ' Azad Kashmir, also known as "free Kashmir".
Along the line of control are numerous raids and, since 1989, a conflict erupts in Kashmir itself.
Pakistan is accused of backing rebels in Kashmir, while India is attacked because it does not recognize the right of peoples to self-determination in Kashmir.
In 1998, the situation is further worsened when the Indian government led by the Janata Party in Rajasthan blew nuclear tests. The answer is to start Pakistan's nuclear tests. Both India and Pakistan following a series of international criticism cease their nuclear testing.
After the terrorist attack on Indian Parliament in 2001, the country has accused Pakistan and has further strengthened the defensive measures. The poor ability of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf to control the Islamic fundamentalists, leaving some uncertainty about the future of Kashmir. During 2004, relations between the two countries seem to have improved: the part of India decides to withdraw its troops, Pakistan to adopt a softer policy.
October 2005, the Indian part of Kashmir has been hit by a powerful earthquake that claimed hundreds of lives. In November of that year was re-opened the border with Pakistan to allow the arrival of humanitarian aid to the local population.

wound. India

Even today I am pleased to report a video-magazine through this blog. It is the protagonist Vandana Shiva, Indian scientist and environmentalist, one of the leaders of the No Global movement which in the opinion of the writer, has become a bit '(a lot) dated, especially in the definition. You can not deny something that in fact is now fully in place, globalization, it is rather a distinction between globalization and a healthy worst that can not be, as always, two sides of same coin. Vandana Shiva
interviewed in 2006 on behalf of the monthly ecologist (and a much-po' "complainer") AAM Newfoundland. I reached for
Hauz Khas, one of the best neighborhoods of New Delhi. I had a night on the back and I had to shoulder a long wait before being received. He greeted me, finally, with English Oxford and a palpable familiarity with the media. Vandana Shiva
I find that doing the battles sacrosanct, like the one presented in the video that I decided to report, but at the same time, is a character that leaves me perplexed for several reasons I will mention shortly.
development in India, the dream / economic miracle of the subcontinent, will have its martyrs.
I quote from the Times of India (January 6, 2011): "According To poverty figures put out by the World Bank the number of poor in India - defined as people earning less Than $ 1.25 per capita per day in purchasing power parity terms - rose from 435.5 million in 1990 to 455.8 million in 2005. "
rapidly lead to those unfamiliar with the English: "The number of poor (according to the criteria of the World Bank that identifies how these people who earn, individually, less than one dollar and twenty-five per day, equal purchasing power) has grown in India, from 435.5 million (as of 1990) to 455.8 million (as of 2005).
Nevertheless, according to another estimate, the Indian middle class expected to reach 600 million people within 10 years. The Indian development
thus two sides: there are those who are finally becoming a standard of living "human" (these days in Varanasi freezes and I am one of the few people using a couple of warmer gas in the house and come therefore considered almost eccentric as the average Indian it may still bear the costs with some difficulty. People are so wrapped up in the house, sneezing and coughing frequently) and this is a phenomenon that I consider, beyond all moral and ideological, completely positive, but some is sinking further into a state of distress, surpassing the threshold of poverty.
Against this I find that what we should do is not only accusing the multinationals and the development model that the country is experiencing. It is here that I do not agree with Vandana Shiva, with his Oxford English says, to put the big, that it was better when it was worse when he had the poor (though the word "poor", at least for half of the Indians - which has never been part, of course, Vandana Shiva - was literally a euphemism) but serene. Mind you, to quote the title of a book publisher friend of the late Angelo Quattrocchi "corporations are bad" but really I'm afraid that in the case of India, beyond issues of exogenous (which of course there are good and are dealt with very seriously , I give full support to Vandana Shiva from this point of view), it should face those within. In other words, I think we should investigate thoroughly and critically the traditional culture of the country to bring order among the causes and effects of specific aspects of his personality.
Alongside this is worth mentioning that the same issue of autochthony is quite controversial as there are those who support the Aryans were natives of the subcontinent and did not come, as claimed instead the majority of scholars from Central Asia. Be that as it
castes are a reality in India with an ancient history and solidity. We know that Mahatma Gandhi spent much of certain aspects of culture, caste, giving even the task of writing the constitution of the Republic of India to Dr. Ambedkar, an "outcast" ("untouchable" o, per usare il termine più appropriato, un dalit, “un oppresso”, “un massacrato”) che, naturalmente, rese le caste anticostituzionali.
Viene inoltre menzionato, nello stesso sito, the current number of Dalits in India: 170 million people who continue to suffer often about 140 types of discrimination created by the dominant caste system (which, for those who really do not know it was the Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishya in - respectively, the traditional caste "Intellectual / hierocratic", "warrior" and traders - the three privileged castes and the Shudra, the servants, the lower caste, followed, not even worthy of being included in the caste system, Dalits are already mentioned) to study which will Call here.
So, starting to do some account of the one billion and two hundred million people in India, 170 million (Almost one-sixth) suffer hidden apartheid, and according to what is still says the site www.dalits.org , simply living in "inhuman" (at least enough to live in the country to realize that the site is not mentioned reported nonsense).
remaining in the network, citing the "India" in wikipedia, there are other interesting data, other numbers (which help to make the speech a little hazy).
quote:

quarter of the nation's population is below the poverty line identified by the government $ 0.40 per day. In 2004-2005, 27.5% of the population lived below the threshold.
The percentage of people living below the international poverty line of $ 1.25 per day is, however, decreased from 60% in 1981 to 42% in 2005. The 85, 7% of the population lived on less than $ 2.50 (PPP - equal to 'purchasing power -) per day in 2005, compared to 80.5% in sub-Saharan Africa. Let

: it is not a very comforting.
I think I can define the traditional Indian culture, even in the face of extraordinary mystical tradition, deeply authoritarian and illiberal, it also captures the behavior of those minutes. My interpretation of these data is that the dominant elite of the caste system has deliberately wanted to keep the vast majority of the population in a state of "impotence," an inability to assert greater wealth distribution (in fact, on the other side of the scale, citing a figure of the famous Indian writer and journalist Tarun Tejpal, among the 10 richest men in the world, four are Indian) and, more generally, the more power. Poverty is a great tool of social control as, indeed, keeping much of the population in ignorance (in India today there are still 35% illiterate, only fifteen years ago, they were more than 50%).
The wages of Indian workers have always been among the lowest in the world (just consider data from Wikipedia) and nel paese non esistono organizzazioni sindacali in grado di incidere davvero a livello politico.
At a time when very few are able to consume (and do not speak here of "consumerism" or degenerate forms of consumption but of "healthy eating", "legitimate") to what extent it is possible to produce goods and, therefore, work?
A separate merit unbelievable levels of widespread corruption, a phenomenon that is increasingly present, at least formally, the agenda of the current political leadership and the ability of people to live with health conditions to say the least desperate (even Even if the improvements in this regard in recent years, are considerable).
Argue for an India that maintains its traditional attitude of a frugal and, in essence, little more than perpetuating an economy of subsistence. One hypothesis is lacking, I see, quite precisely by virtue of realism of the phenomenon, from Seattle, with little luck and a symbol of the flag naive, it was decided to deny: globalization.
Globalization "good", the real-time information circulating over the Internet can not make a clean sweep, over time, many local and traditional (including, thank goodness, than the Indians). This is, of course, a process issue (of dilution but also cultural renewal of their value-size), a critical step definitely but you can not realistically think that, in the face of it, the young Indians do not wish to see and afford to live a little 'of the world far beyond the possibilities of virtual reality.
In a nutshell, I think it's reasonable to think that young Indians, most of those in the West, we want only one thing: being, overcoming the shackles of a so-called traditional culture, according to the arguments so far, begins to be totally anachronistic without, however, had never shone for social success.
Welfare and more freedom, more space to the needs of the individual who has always had to submit, in India, the dictates of tradition, being more experienced than being free to live their lives and, therefore, free to choose.
paradigmatic in this sense, the phenomenon of marriages arranged by families, still prevalent in much of the country. The size
caste, also, has always kept to a minimum social mobility, so that until a few years ago who was born into a family placed in a specific professional branch has often been almost a sentence having to do, in turn, the trade or profession of their parents, alongside a wife or a husband who were not at all subject of choice.
is what I call "the tragedy of inevitability" that still afflicts the people of India deeply.
More generally, I find that so-called traditional Indian culture is very much a culture of domination and subjugation that is starting to show cracks irreversible in another crucial area: the university education.
I quote another article from the Times of India (December 26, 2010) entitled enlightening new In India, more guides Than gurus :

For generations, the unquestioned god Was the professor and guru of the Indian classroom, Able to hold forth for hours with no one daring to ask a question or to confess They Had not understood concept. Students Would kneel and touch the teacher's feet Whenever They met unfaltering as a sign of respect.

translating, in short, the professor has for generations been the undisputed god and guru of the class of Indian students, able to go on for hours without
that no one dared to ask a question or admit that he did not understand the concept. The students had to kneel and touch his feet whenever he met as a sign of unquestioned respect.
All this, argues Emily Wax in the article, created generations of professionals too intimidated to submit their own ideas. The economic boom of recent years, however, is beginning to ask, explicitly, the most creative professional cadres.
Ironically, the teachers are so bloated ending, in turn, to the classroom. The
Wipro, India's third largest information technology company, has in fact begun to organize trainings for "degurizzare" teachers rather than making it - more secular and perhaps for some, prosaically - the "trainers". Already
ten thousand teachers are being "degurizzazione" and it is expected to be "degurizzati" twenty-five thousand more over the next three years.
Given the awe of the students in schools, it is hard to think there is much more enterprising in the world of work and, more generally, in social life of the country, where hierarchies vengono venerate nella misura in cui sono, profondamente, temute.
Un’arretratezza tutta indiana, di cui la leadership the country must find the courage to take responsibility and, therefore, the martyrs of the Indian dream of 170 million innocent people who suffer every day the hidden ugliness of apartheid.
A country of interest groups, political and social players are less dependent, less naive and more active, you may begin to have some good elements to be less susceptible to degenerate expressions of the free market.
Following a brief introduction to the video on this site olisticatv and the video itself.

How do multinational companies to enter local markets, destroying economies and balances based on biodiversity and tradition?
The example of India, where mustard oil is not only a food traditional economic, but also an ayurvedic cure for many ills. 1.11 L’India Britannica

The East India Company administered the territory until 1858, although the British government has already controls India earlier.
The British with their interest in trade and profits increase production of tea, coffee, cotton and increase the extraction of coal and iron. It built an extensive rail network in India and began to design the system of irrigation canals and the zamindars (landowners who do not live in their lands), resulting in an increase in the number of impoverished peasants. English becomes the official language, although many continue to speak local languages and this fact determines a distance between the rulers and the Indians.

1.12 The struggle for self-government

The revolt against the British began in 1857, the same year they founded the three major universities in India in Bombay, Madras and Calcutta, which promote the teachings of European type in English. The spread of British culture in India has formed a Westernized middle class made up of the Indian workers in the state bureaucracy, bankers and merchants who grew rich with the East India Company in addition to the large Indian industrial cotton and steel.
This class is united by common interests and a culture that is not only English, but many adhere to the new reformed Hinduism that has developed in response to the Europeans who have criticized the orthodox Hinduism. Many Indians
outraged by the conduct contemptuous decide to claim the European values and create a new reform of Hinduism against the degeneration of recent years. The westernized middle class of clerks and bureaucrats in India whose development is due to the collaboration with the British, he realizes that command posts are reserved for only the English, while the Indians are excluded.
The main cause of the outbreak of the rebellion of 1857 concerning an incident in a military barracks in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, which spreads the news that the soldiers were given bullets greased with animal fat.
In environments Indians circulating rumors that it is fat cow, an animal considered sacred to Hindus, while among Muslims it comes to fat pig, an animal considered unclean by Islam and these items generate a situation of tension, which soon leads to a rebellion that was soon quelled by the British in the blood. These facts show clear signs of instability in the life of the country that requires a process of change. When in 1883 a draft law, which requires the courts to judge Indian British citizens, British cause a reaction, the Indians decided to organize to promote their rights and in 1885 founded the Congress Party.
Within the party, it appears that current moderate, who thinks that it is enough to prove to England that Indians are capable of governing themselves to seek self-government, promote various social reforms with the aim of educating the masses. Moderates understand that Congress is an expression of the Westernized middle class that lacks the participation of the masses. To try to change the situation is expected to use religion as an instrument of propaganda and pilgrimages and religious festivals are organized to convince the masses that need to rebel against the British. In 1905 he was the first clash between the Congress Party and the British, after a measure of the Viceroy Lord Carzone which provides that private schools are monitored by the British in India.
When Bengal was divided into two provinces based on religious divisions to separate Hindus from Muslims, the Congress understands that this policy action is to divide Hindus and Muslims. Bengal began an agitation that soon spread to many regions of India.
Congress decides to use the "swadeshi", namely the rejection of everything that comes from England. During this first phase, the colonial government emerges winner: can not unify the unrest in Bengal, where there are strong tensions between the extremists and moderates. The British arrested the head of the current extreme and try to support the moderates by granting some reforms such as election Indians in the Viceregal advice. The Indian situation remains unchanged until the outbreak of World War I and the appearance on the international scene of Gandhi.

1.13 The Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi is one of the greatest figures of the twentieth century. and plays a central role in the struggle for Indian independence from British colonial rule.
Founded in 1869 by a merchant family in Portbandar in northwest India and got married at the age of thirteen years under the Hindu tradition. He studied in London and after graduating in law from practicing as a lawyer in Bombay, but only briefly.
Indeed in 1863 went to South Africa where- remains for twenty years and worked as a counselor at an Indian firm. During these years Gandhi was in touch with the reality of "apartheid" and began his struggle for recognition of Indian rights. In 1906 he promoted his method of struggle based on non-violent resistance, called "satyagraha." Gandhi himself defines the meaning of satyagraha as follows:

Over the last thirty years I have preached the satyagraha. I came to the conclusion that the principles of satyagraha constitute a gradual evolution. The term satyagraha was coined by me in South Africa to define the force in this country the Indians used it for eight years, and was coined by the order to distinguish this force from the movement that was developing then in England and South Africa under the name of Passive Resistance.
Its deeper meaning is adhering to the truth, and thus the power of truth. I also called the power of love or soul force. In 'the application of Satyagraha I discovered from the first moments that the search for truth does not allow the use of violence against the adversary, but that this must be diverted from error by patience and understanding.
For what seems like the truth to one may seem a mistake to another. And patience means available to suffer. So the meaning of the doctrine is the defense of verità attuata non infliggendo sofferenze all’avversario ma a se stessi.
Il criminale viola la legge sneaking, and tries to avoid punishment, but is totally different behavior of the person who practices civil resistance. This always obey the laws of the state to which it belongs, not out of fear of punishment but because it considers them useful for the welfare of society. But
occur some cases, usually rare, in which he considers some unjust laws and obedience to them a disgrace. He then openly and civilly violates these laws and patiently endured the punishment that is imposed for such violation. And to demonstrate his protest against the action of the legislators he may withhold his cooperation to the state, even disobeying other laws whose breach does not imply a behavior immoral.
In my opinion the beauty and efficacy of satyagraha are great, and the doctrine is so simple that they can also be taught to a child.
In South Africa I have preached to thousands of men, women and children in India, with excellent results.

("Young India", January 14, 1920).

Gandhi's objective is to achieve the social and political equality through peaceful marches and rebellions and its work with the South African government to eliminate some discriminatory laws, is entitled to equal rights for Indian immigrants and are recognized religious marriages.

By contrast, the civil disobedience that was practiced in 1919 involved a breach of all laws oppressive and immoral. It meant to be out in a civil law, ie non-violent. The follower of civil disobedience was exposed to the penalties provided by law and submitted willingly to the Incarnation. Civil disobedience is a part of satyagraha. The non-cooperation
basically implies the refusal to cooperate with the state in the opinion of the followers of non-cooperation has become corrupt, and excludes the civil disobedience of the type described above total.
By its very nature non-cooperation can be carried by children who have just the age of reason and can be easily practiced by the masses. Civil disobedience presupposes a willingness to obey the law voluntarily, not by fear of sanctions they provide. It can therefore be practiced only as a last resort and, at least initially, only a few selected items. The non-cooperation, such as civil disobedience, is a part of satyagraha, which includes all forms of non-violent resistance to the affirmation of the truth.

("Young India", March 23, 1921).

In 1920 Gandhi manages to bring the peasant masses in the organization of the Congress Party and its farmers who call him "Mahatma", which in Sanskrit means "Great Soul". Is jailed and released several times during his fight, taking part in the London Conference, where it claims the right of independence for his country.
In 1930 he was the promoter of the "salt march", one of the most unfair tax because it hits the lower classes. In March of that year he wrote a letter to the Viceroy listing the injustices that must be eliminated by the British government and in the final section presents the method of satyagraha and the intention to launch a campaign of civil disobedience regarding the violation of the law salt:

would be wrong to wait. It is generally accepted that no matter how disorganized and for the moment still numerically weak, the party of violence is gaining ground and starts kicking. Its purposes are the same that I set. But I am convinced that it can not relieve the suffering of the masses in India. It is getting deeper in me the belief that only the absolute non-violence can be a valuable antidote to the violence organized by the British government. Many think that nonviolence is not an active force. My experience, however limited it may be, but I have shown that non-violence can be an intensely active force. I intend to lead this great force against organized violence against the British rule as disorganized violence dal partito della violenza in rapida ascesa. Rimanere ancora passivi significherebbe dare libero corso a entrambe queste forze.

Ma le vittorie della verità have never been achieved without taking risks, and often have been obtained only with the ability to run the greatest risk. The conversion of a nation that consciously or unconsciously lives off of another nation much more populous, much older and less civil, it is something that deserves you take risks.
deliberamene I used the word conversion. In fact, my ambition is to convert the British people through non-violence, and ensure that it understands the harm he has done to India. I do not mean harm to your people. I want to serve no more or less how I want to serve my. And I think I have ever served. Up to 1919 I served him blindly.

If not then will eliminate injustices. The draft is intended for civil disobedience to fight the injustices that I have mentioned. It is because of these injustices that we want to sever our relations with England. When they will be deleted everything will become easy, and it will open the way for amicable negotiations. If British relations with India will be purified by greed, you will have no difficulty in recognizing our independence. Therefore respectfully urge you to engage immediately in the elimination of these injustices, to open the way to real negotiations between equals, merely seek to promote the common good of humanity through the voluntary cooperation, and establish the terms of a mutual aid and reports satisfactory to both parties. You gave too much prominence to the problems that plague communities of this country. Important as these problems can be for anyone who wants to rule the country, they have a quite secondary importance compared to more serious problems that are beyond the community and affecting all equally. But if she will not eliminate the injustices that I mentioned and if this letter will not be able to touch his heart, on the 11th of this month I will start with the companions of the ashram who want to follow me, violating the provision on the salt march . I consider the tax salt the most iniquitous of all from the perspective of the poor. And since the independence movement that aims primarily to the good of the country's poorest, will start from the fight against this injustice. The thing that surprised us is that we are subject to cruel salt monopoly for so long. I know you have the opportunity to act to prevent me making me stop. But I hope that there are tens of thousands of people ready, in a disciplined manner, to take my place, and disobeying the law on salt, to expose himself to the penalties provided for by law should never have been defacing our codes.

not a threat but a sacred duty. I have no desire to cause difficulties unjustified e in generale di causarle delle difficoltà, per quanto mi è possibile.
La farò recapitare da un giovane amico inglese che crede in the Indian cause and is a faithful follower of non-violence and that Providence seems to me specially sent to fulfill my task.

("Young India", March 12, 1930).

The campaign of non-violent Gandhi also promotes a boycott of goods from abroad and was imprisoned after his wife with long protest hunger strikes, the most famous being undertaken to combat the situation of "untouchables"

Fasting is a powerful weapon in the Satyagraha. It can not be undertaken by all. The simple physical ability to endure is not a sufficient quality. Fasting is completely useless without a deep faith in God, it must never be a mechanical effort or a mere imitation. Must be inspired from deep within. So it is extremely rare. I seem to cut it. It is noteworthy that none of those in the political sphere is in my own position has felt the pulse of the fast. And I'm pleased to say that none of them has ever criticized my fasts. Even my fellow members of the ashram have never felt the impulse of the fast, except on rare occasions. They have always accepted the rule not to engage in fasting prison without my permission, no matter how compelling the impulse to fasting may seem to them.
Fasting then, although it is a powerful weapon, is governed by strict rules and can be taken only by those who are adequately prepared for it. And, in my yardstick, the majority of fasting are in no way related to the scope of satyagraha and are, as they are generally called the hunger strike without any preparation and awareness. If you repeat too often, these
hunger strikes are set to lose even the limited effect that may have to fall into the ridiculous.

(Harjan, March 18, 1939). When

August 15, 1947, India achieved independence, Gandhi live with suffering, this time dedicated to prayer and fasting. In fact it is enshrined in the division of the subcontinent into two states: India and Pakistan. This division adds the definitive separation between Hindus and Muslims, and determining the outbreak of civil war, which causes a million deaths and six million refugees. The Mahatma that has taken a moderate stance on the issue of division of the country, aroused the hatred of a Hindu fanatic, who kills him during a prayer meeting January 30, 1948.

stay in Varanasi. A

A Varanasi, a time, with live otherwise.
In Varanasi, where Hindus hope to die for the last time, directly at the home of local, living a good standard of India, spartan but enjoyable, interesting and educational on the anthropological level over that of integral growth.
was organized in Varanasi, a small network for home stay, which can be employed on the front of the kitchen, thereby drastically reducing the chance of annoying intestinal infections, with the opportunity to be guided, or at least recommended in the discovery the city, if possible, also, enjoy a few comforts "Western" (good music, good books, good movies) and, of course, the privilege to dive in the authentic culture of the area, with yoga classes and sessions of ayurveda (tenute, naturalmente, da Smriti Yoga Teacher presso la Om International Yoga Health Society ), massaggi e concerti di musica classica indiana.

Golddesert Eagle To Bye

LUNA NUOVA -- martedì 4 gennaio 2011 -- da Ajahn Munindo.

Empty the water from your boat,
pollutants released from the passions of lust and hatred
:
eased
sail toward liberation.

Dhammapada verse 369

Our heart becomes more leggero quando comprendiamo come le passioni
indisciplinate possano essere un fardello tanto pesante. Forse ci
chiediamo: “Cosa continua a rendermi infelice?”

Period More Heavy Bleeding

Progetto Alice, newsletter di fine anno.

Dear friends, are
past 16 years since we started tentatively with the Alice Project at Sarnath . Two classrooms were built with the intention of bringing students up to fifth grade. There were eighty students and three teachers. These are still with us. I remember the prophecy of the Jain religion that came to bless the classrooms, after the ceremonies of Christians (father Pereira, the Capuchin friar), Buddhist monks (Gosele Lama, the president of our company), a Hindu pandit and a mullhah Muslim. He said the religious Janine: "This land is not enough!" Even Father Pereira, the Capuchin friar, preaching during the Mass celebrated in the classroom of the underground said that the school would develop in an unpredictable way. We made it clear that the particular designs of Providence had not ... So we thought for sure that those two classrooms would be miraculously multiplied to become thirty. Students went from nine hundred to a few tens to current Sarnath, Bodhgaya 40 to (hostel residents), in a hundred new schools in Arunachal Pradesh. Teachers have soared up to three dozen. Over the years, some of the funds offered by our sponsors, was donated for the purchase of land, knowing that the school would never have developed if he had not had adequate space for buildings, laboratories, playground ...
Two former students are responsible for a project for literacy in the villages in the State of Uttar Pradesh. Some girls to successfully teach in private schools in the district of Varanasi. The opinion is unanimous about our former students: prepare, good English and people you can trust. We recently became aware that several high school students give private lessons to peers or younger than their little guys. The areas in which our students excel are the humanities: English, Hindi and history. Also this year, we had one hundred percent of the state exam promoted to Class X. New: the school of Sarnath was chosen as the site of the state exams for the University of Sanskrit. For about ten days, two hundred university students from different parts of Uttar Pradesh, were hosted in the halls of Sarnath, controlled by a dozen professors. The school, thus, was included in the list of leading centers for university exams.

School in Bodhgaya for Chakma
The Chakma are an ethnic minority from Bangladesh, Buddhist. The Bangladesh was born in 1971 after the secession from the State of Pakistan, who belonged to India until 1947. So the Chakma were Indians until the famous bloody partition that saw the state of Pakistan. When it came to pass the second partition (the birth of the State of Bangladesh), found themselves face harsh persecution by the Muslim majority. Not only that, but part of the territory, where they lived, was flooded with a huge new dam. Thus, thousands of families were forced to leave their land and take refuge in India. Concentrated mainly in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, where many working as farmers living in conditions of great discomfort. Very few were recognized by the Indian government. The majority live as refugees, without rights, without a passport, without the opportunity to vote, open a bank account or their own business. Since 1998, the Alice Project has taken to heart the situation of this ethnic minority and hosts free dozens of school children ranging from nine to twenty years. So far we have helped about a hundred of these unfortunate children. Now many of them work in the army, or as translators (English) in call centers, such as teachers in their villages or camps with their elderly parents. Bodhgaya A host of two years 40 of these guys and we take them until the end of high school. Curiously, many of these students have an innate sense artistico.Forse because they live in very close contact with nature, the mountains of the Himalayas, it is certain that they are "born artists", as they say. So, we decided to use this natural gift for a possible job. Since last year, the school sponsors two senior students who are attending a training course to become painters tanke (famous Tibetan paintings on cloth, using natural colors). It is only the beginning. When we discover other talents, will expand the proposal to other students. A
Bodhgaya these students do not have an easy life. In fact, for educational choice, we decided to entrust the school, including the administration, the students themselves, who must try to become as independent as possible. For this, field work is part of the training program. Every day, a group of boys has the task of overseeing the various crops should be used for the entire community of residents. In this way, the school can significantly reduce operating costs. In the end, only rice, oil, sugar and milk are also acquistati.Ma spending on rice was reduced considerably after the opening of night school for children / any of the villages. About 120 of them attend school. In return, we asked each student, as a straight, a kilo of rice per month. Chakma Students help the three local teachers to manage classes, I teach English, or teaching mathematics, general knowledge ... As you will understand, the school in Bodhgaya, which had been closed for economic reasons but also due to communication problems with famiglie, ora sta risorgendo su basi diverse. Do ut des, dice un proverbio latino.
Come tutte initiatives at an early stage, the school has lights and shadows, successes and problems. The successes relate to the method that is envied by other schools in the area. The problems: the shortage of funds and so can not build new classrooms and the design of a hostel for girls has been put in the fridge, waiting for better times. Many people ask us why we only have boys as residents. It is true, but it is not a choice discriminates against girls. The fact is that a hostel for girls requires a different structure (female staff for assistance, separate dormitories, guardians day and night ...). We would, however, start with some girls in serious family difficulties (orphan or in a state of distress due to family problems).

School in Bihar
We realize that if we want a real positive change in India, we have to focus on the education of girls and boys. The future is in their hands. Do you agree Vandana Shiva, a courageous scientist who is fighting to stop the self-destructive race of this country. "Life is the woman. It will be the woman who will bring the village life in the cities, "says Vandana Shiva. Also we have the Alice project special consideration for girls and boys. Our dream is to see many of them teachers, social workers, psychologists engaged soprattutto nei villaggi che stanno morendo nelle loro tradizioni.
Come fare?
We remember the drowning of one of our students in the class X. Drowned in the Ganga while she was a rite of purification after fasting and participated in a long pilgrimage (on foot). Son of poor people, studied and worked to keep the whole family consists of 10 people living in one room. An example of life for all our students came out, unfortunately, only after his death. Another
mourning marked this school year, a student of our class XII was the victim of a traffic accident. One note: the person who killed the driver of a tractor, he paid 50 thousand rupees to the family (about 800 €). So is the life of an eighteen year old here! List of the misfortunes we have to add those caused by human nature, which, because of Global warming, is becoming increasingly unpredictable and uncontrollable. Every year, nature presents us with an account salty. Two years ago, a storm covering of the roof of the school in Bodhgaya. Accadutto This year is the school of Sarnath. The fury of the wind took the roof off of the new class of yoga, causing damage of a few thousand euro. We must say that several people, including an elementary school, we have offered aid to repair the damage. For years trying to convince the villagers to respect more the Earth, the environment, but we're really a "voice crying in the wilderness."
Unfortunately, India seems to march in a direction opposite to that suggested by our school, which, once again, especially following the ideas of non-violence and Gandhi's development. Gandhi had a clear vision of the future of his country that was exactly the opposite of that proposed by the West. Less than agriculture and industry, said Gandhi. Less consumption and more simplicity. Less profit sharing and more. Less materialism, more spirituality and respect for all religious traditions. If a car takes away the dozens of workers at work, give up the car, which, inter alia, the polluter, to ensure the survival of the workers. In these few lines is also summarized the philosophy of our project educativo. We, here, we have a 'different experience.

Briefings
continues successfully managed the course in Italian with contributions from the Ministry, through the Italian Embassy in Delhi. Several Italian volunteers took turns as the course lecturers. Remind students of Professor Caracchi University of Turin, who come every year to carry out the training required by the course of study. The collaboration with the Italian Embassy (Cultural Center) is now not only ideal for courses in Italian, (which are some surprising results, thanks to our teaching and texts prepared by Valentino) but also for altre iniziative (vedi facilitazione nella concessione dei visti turistici a gruppi di persone inviate in Italia per far conoscere il Progetto educativo e raccogliere fondi).

Why tie the name of a school Terzani? Terzani had a deep feeling for young people. Letters against the war he dedicated to his nephew, because large chose peace. In the pilgrimage that followed, he wanted to talk, especially in schools, universities because he wanted to remove the children a sense of frustration and powerlessness they face the modern world, so complicated, so difficult that it seems like the world of "others." In recent months, he called his son Folco because that was his book-text (the end is my beginning) communicate to young people, did they understand that you can transform lives, reinventing the future, take a path of spiritual evolution more and more human, more peaceful. "

Several groups of foreign students and teachers continue to visit us. We report the International School in Pune, which has recently sent 16 students and two teachers a week at Sarnath. Guests have wanted to live with our students, participating in class, eating the same food, and even sleeping in their homes. When they left, everyone was moved, including our students were able to establish a bond of friendship with their peers.

interesting encounter between the monks and nuns of Burma with our school. About thirty religious teachers (especially in Burma are the men who run schools and social activities for the poor) have asked Valentino a training methodology and philosophy of the Alice Project. At the end of the course, teachers have called on the Alice project in their country and the oldest among them, interpreting the thoughts of all, it was stated: "Now, thanks to you, we understand that happiness is not to be found in out of our country and ourselves, because in our tradition we can find everything you need for a better society. "

In the field of publishing, we recommend the publication of a new textbook of tales and stories, for medium and higher education that combines of English and philosophy of the project. The text is accompanied by a grammar edited by teachers of the school. For the baptism of the new book was called on the Chancellor of Sanskrit University in Varanasi. At the presentation ceremony of the new text was also attended by numerous professors from other universities. The Rector was thrilled with the work done in the sixteen years of school life. In particular, expressed his unconditional respect and appreciation for the efforts of Alice Project to store, retrieve, revive the lost values of India's yogis, mystics, sages. He said quote: "It's an embarrassment for us to have abandoned the stories of our tradition that are not longer taught in our schools. Valentino has brought us these stories, warning us that in India we have the key to help solve the problems of this era. Unfortunately, we had this key, but we lost. Valentino has it shown. "A book of stories written in English for primary school students of the PA is being published in Italian by a publishing house in Milan. The financial situation

After losing the most important sponsor, because of international crisis, we found (next to the old, faithful supporters) some new friends (from Italy, Switzerland, Holland, America and Germany) that allow us to continue our work without feeling the water to the throat. We thank them all, old and new, on behalf of our teachers and students. For Chakma, we remind the collaboration with the group of friends "Flora", the support of "Friends of Humanity" (Geneva - contact: Graziella Zanoletti - graziella@friendsofhumanity.ch), sponsored by the school in Arunachal Pradesh and Rigpa Soghyal Rinpoche. Inform you that the head, or rather, the godmother of the project in general Chakma (schools of Sarnath, Bodhgaya and Arunachal Pradesh) for Italy Luciana Usellini (cherab50@gmail.com) which also coordinates a publishing initiative for the publication of storybooks scritti da Valentino.

The work is titled Mysterium (USA), and you can see a trailer on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/Ashtamable . It is also in preparation for the Italian edition. Part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to AP Anton also published on "YouTube" a documentary about smart schools and Alice never fails to disclose, even in the meetings of psychology, intuition and the results of education and an alternative proposed by Luigi Valentino .

- The Alice Project Onlus del Friuli (see address at the end of the letter) has presented two projects (the Friuli and Trentino Alto Adige) per chiedere finanziamenti per le nosre scuole.

- The Swiss Association Friends of Humanity Project, which supports the "Help us to educate 800 children in India" Global Giving on the U.S. site has launched an appeal for December 22 by the sum of U.S. $ 4000 to get a permanent page this popular U.S. site. You can help with donations of any kind through the site.

offer an interesting initiative designed and developed by friends of the House of Teglio Rovasenda: the sale of "Rice solidarity" ( www.associazioneriso.org ). This is an original idea that is thus explained by the same group / "The association RICE (Rice Italian Solidarity), aims to provide and coordinate volunteer labor, to companies that commit themselves, through a written agreement to donate their proceeds immediately and completely available to finance projects chosen by the association, to exclusive benefit of particularly disadvantaged communities. "To all our friends, we call on: for your soups and risotto rice purchased solidarity cultivated naturally, without pesticides and chemical fertilizers, to support humanitarian projects in India as our schools, but also in other parts of the world. First to conclude this incomplete list (that integrate in future newsletters) Updating remember the course for teachers of the school of Sarnath managed by dr. Andrea Bocconi, psychologist, psychotherapist and writer best known and respected in Italy. Bocconi has for many years near the nost work as a consultant, friend and supporter. For several years, involved in helping with our research staff of professionals, "Verso", we have our guests prossmo year for a new training course.

Bultrini journalist has written two pieces for the online edition of newspaper: a on "Children of the pyre" and a second on Valentine's Day, as the co-founder, along with Luigi, schools in India.

Everyone wishes for a 2011 hope.
